Obituary

Janet Lewis of The Woodlands, TX passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023 at the age of 92.  Janet was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Joseph and Isabella Ireland.  Her father worked in the shipyard where the Titanic was built.  In her teen years Janet met Jack Lewis– the love of her life – in Belfast.  In 1948 Jack immigrated by himself at the age of 21 to the United States with plans to live with his aunt and uncle until he found a job and could earn enough money to support a family.  Jack and Janet corresponded by mail for three years, until Jack asked Janet for her hand in marriage and to join him in America.  He sent enough money for Janet to buy an engagement ring and to book passage aboard the RMS Queen Elizabeth to reunite with Jack and begin their life together.  They were married in 1952 and – as they say – the rest is history.

Janet and Jack spent most of their married life and raised their two sons, Jack & Brian, in Clark, N.J. And in 1997, after her husband, Jack, passed away, Janet moved to The Woodlands, TX.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and her sister, Betty. An extraordinarily loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and volunteer, Janet is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack & Melanie Lewis, son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Linda Lewis, grandchildren, Jonathan Lewis (and wife Jen), Megan Meals (and husband Cory), John Lewis, and Matt Lewis and great granddaughters, Grey Lewis and Paige Ireland Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Rise School of Austin https://riseschoolaustin.org/donate/ or the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas http://dsact.org/donate in loving memory of Janet.
