Janet Carol Eshelman passed away September 29, 2019 while doing what she loved. Known as the "Garden Fairy," she was gardening and teaching others at Ault Elementary School in Fairfield when she became over-heated and experienced a cardiac event.

Janet Poinsett was born in Mount Holly, New Jersey on January 23, 1947 the daughter of Eugene Poinsett and Pearla Wickward Poinsett. She attended Wayne State Teachers College until she met her husband, Larry in Philadelphia in April, 1966. They were married in September, 1966 and lived in Philadelphia until 1969. Their first two sons, Kyle and Vaughn were born at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. The four moved to Larry's hometown of Uniontown, Pa. in June of 1969 where sons Dain and Brian were born. They moved in 1973 to the Pittsburgh area and then to Dayton, Ohio with Larry's employer.

The family spent 6 years in Dayton and were moved to Houston, Texas in January, 1980 where they have lived in Northwest Houston. Then they lived in the Cypress area for the last 22 years.

After an eighteen-year career as a day-care Director, Janet retired in 1999. She stayed active and found her calling with the Harris County Master Gardeners in 2000. She spent countless hours in her own garden and volunteered her knowledge and skills helping many groups.

Janet was loyal and truly cared about others. Most who knew her considered her either their best friend or one of their closest friends. She remained close to childhood friends, those she made while playing on an adult coed Soccer team (The Outlaws), those made while gardening, and those made while volunteering. Janet was also known as Geeg, Grand mom, Strawberry and other affectionate names. She was loved by all she met.

Janet loved to travel and traveled with Larry and friends to many locations in the U.S. as well as Europe and Mexico. Some of her fondest memories were of wine cruises in Europe with the Messina Hof group and trips to various locations in Mexico. She loved entertaining, sharing good wine, and spending time with Larry and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry, two sons, Dain and Brian, sister Shirley, brother Gene, seven grandchildren with whom she shared a strong mutual love, Evan, Ryan, Lauren, Ben, Keeley, Samantha and Alex, daughters-in-law Julie Eshelman, Laura Eshelman, Kim Eshelman and Lisa Pearrow, sister-in-law Lana Nicklow and brothers-in-law Jim Nicklow and Russ Oberlechner, all of Uniontown, Pa, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons Kyle in 2007 and Vaughn in 2018, sister Barbara in 2018 and sister-in-law Linda Oberlechner in 2012.

Janet lived a full life and brightened the life of all she met. She is sorely missed and will be missed until we meet again. She will be helping others in heaven until then.

Arrangements are being handled by Klein Funeral Home, Tomball, Texas (www.kleinfh.com). Janet was an organ donor and wished to be cremated and buried in Mount Holly (Saint Andrews Cemetery, also known as Baptist Cemetery on Pine Street) where her mother and father are buried. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 11, 2019 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2015 Cypresswood Drive, Cypress, Texas (located at the front of Fairfield).
