Married to Kenneth Austin Spencer, May 15, 1955 in Artesia, New Mexico

Mom and Dad met each other when they were on a double date … BUT each with another person! Dad took his date home and then Mom's date home so he could take Mom home. That night Dad told his dad and sister he had met the girl he was going to marry.  About 6 months later they were married.  After 61 years Mom would still laugh … remembering the preacher had given "their union" 6 months! Their song was Unchained Melody.

• Lifelong member of the church of Christ
• Mom and Dad were house parents at Lubbock's children's home for 4 years, parenting up to 18 children in 1 cottage
• Loved being a wife and mother – homemaker
• Would say she was never bored keeping house, she could always find something to do
• Loved having her entire family together at one time
• Enjoyed cross-stitching
• Loved garage sales and "making a silk purse out of a sows ear"
• When she spoke about her grandsons it was the most beautiful and animated story ever told
• Us kids never heard Daddy say her name it was always … "Baby"
• All of her nieces and great nieces wanted Mom to talk "baby-talk" to their babies because it was so unique
• The number 5 was her favorite number … she would say that many events in her life happened in FIVES
• Her favorite color, of course, was pink
• Her favorite flowers were lilacs
• She adored her family history
