James Webb Thompson, June 1, 1944-July 8, 2020, devoted husband to the love of his life, Rebecca Ann Means Thompson and adoring father to Leah Elizabeth Thompson. James was a true renaissance man. He was Mr. Hemphill High School, a proud U of H Cougar with a BS in psychology, a poet, a published short story author, director of healthcare facilities engineering, jewelry designer, former President of Water District 119, construction worker, and computer programmer. He had a brilliant mind and mastered any subject that captivated his attention.

He was a man of impeccable character and integrity that never had an unkind word to say about his fellow man. He had a huge heart and even bigger capacity for kindness and forgiveness. These qualities were part of the Thompson legacy. James personified the spirit of loving thy neighbor in many ways, such as donating platelets at MD Anderson to someone he had never met.  He volunteered  as a firefighter with the Klein Fire Department in it's early days.  He contributed his time and resources to numerous charitable organizations, including those supporting veterans as James proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam war.

James was an athlete growing up in small town Texas and played football, basketball, baseball, ran track in high school and was the youth swim coach at Holloman Air Force base during his service there. He continued his love of running throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, especially any time spent fishing along the Texas coast or in Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver Webb Thompson and Lillian Elizabeth Franks Thompson, sisters Marcia Alison and Arrie Lanis Thompson. In addition to his wife Rebecca and daughter Leah, James is survived by his sisters Betty Grainger, Sandra Nett, Barbara (Tommy) Tompkins, brother-in-law Allen (Sue)Means,  brother-in-law Jerry (Linda) Means,  sister-in-law Debi Bartlett, and  brother-in-law Larry (Kathy) Means. He loved his extended family which included many cousins, nieces, nephews, their children and many close friends as family was most important to him.

Due to COVID, the family will not be having a memorial at this time as James would rather everyone wait until his life could be safely celebrated. In remembrance, should you desire, donations can be made in his honor to the following organizations that were important to him:
