Obituary

James (59) of Tomball, Texas passed away on 20 September 2023 at HCA Park Plaza Hospital after an acute illness.  James (Jim) was born to James (Sr) and Alice Schlesser in Chicago, IL.  Jim was predeceased by his parents.  He was the cherished brother of Elizabeth Schlesser and Diane McGee (Edward); uncle of Megan Tamez (Jacob); and great-uncle of Sophia, Brooklyn, Zoe and Charlotte Tamez.

In his childhood, Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while attending Catholic Catechism classes.  He recommitted his life to Jesus in 2022 at Crossbridge Christian Church.

When Jim was 9 years old, his family moved to St. Charles, Missouri.  Throughout his life, he had many interests and talents including science, music, art and literature.  After graduating with honors from St. Charles High School, Jim accompanied his family to Little Rock (Arkansas) where he completed a nursing diploma program with high honors.  His affinity for marginalized populations led him to practice nursing in a mental health crisis center, the Arkansas state prison and several nursing homes.  His nursing home patients called him a gentle giant.  In 2003, he moved to Houston (Texas) to help his mother care for his father who had had a stroke.  In 2013, Jim graduated with honors from Lone Star College with an Associate of Arts degree.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Crossbridge Christian Church (15415 West Road, Houston, TX 77095) on Saturday, 30 September 2023 at 4:00 pm with refreshments provided after the service.
