JAMES TURNER RODGERS III Obituary

August 26, 1934 to June 28, 2019

James Turner Rodgers III, 84, journeyed to his Lord and Savior the morning of June 28, 2019.

Jimmy was born in El Dorado, Arkansas to James Turner Rodgers II, a cotton and cattle farmer, and Mazie Moak Rodgers, a seamstress. He was an only child. After a family move to Tennessee, he spent his junior and high school years in Shreveport, Louisiana, graduating from Byrd High School in 1952. It was there, he met his high school sweetheart, Claudette Moore, who became his bride of 64 years.

Professionally, Jimmy enjoyed a successful career in the Oil and Gas Industry. He received both a B.S. and M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and The University of Texas in Austin, Texas, respectively. After several years of teaching Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, he transitioned into the private sector where he worked for Amoco Production Company for 15 years in five different states and Anadarko Production Company for 16 years in Houston, Texas. Jimmy retired as Anadarko's President, Chief Operating Officer, and Board Member in 1992. Jimmy continued his professional career serving on various companies' Board of Directors and staying active in numerous oil and gas related organizations.

Jimmy was also involved with many social and spiritual organizations. He and his wife, Claudette, remained active with Young Life, Junior Achievement, numerous churches, and Campus Crusade for Christ, while supporting many individual missionaries around the World. Jimmy served on the Board of Lakewood Methodist Church and Elder Board of Northwest Bible Church. Jimmy and Claudette shared a passion for volunteering at Between Jobs Ministry, a Christ-centered program to help unemployed job seekers through encouragement, networking, spiritual guidance, and training.

Jimmy was devoted to family time, cherished family trips, and faithfully supported his children every step of the way through their life journeys. He introduced his family to snow skiing, water-skiing, camping, and beach vacations, which created many of what are now his family's favorite memories. He was a fun dad and caring father!

With all that he had attained on Earth, he left a poignant note in his Bible indicating his desire for it to be read at his funeral: "I am in Heaven because I accepted Jesus – not by my works."

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Claudette, his three children and their families: James and Renita Rodgers, Renee Adams, Tom Adams, Stacey Casagrande-Letbetter and Vance Letbetter; grandchildren: Turner and Bryce Rodgers; David and Danielle Adams, John and Elizabeth Adams, and Laura Adams; Matthew, Luke, Jacob, and Noah Casagrande, Kayce Tipton-Bucks and Bill Bucks, and Ashley Letbetter-Green; and, great-grandchildren: Jace Bucks and Chloe Green.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mazie Rodgers; and, granddaughter, Hope Casagrande.

Jimmy Rodgers' Memorial service and reception will be held at Northwest Bible Church, 5503 Fellowship Lane, Spring, TX 77379 at 2 p.m. on July 20th, 2019.
