James Conner Lewis went to his final reward Tuesday, March 21, 2023. James entered this world on September 20, 1928, to parents Emma Conner Holmes Lewis and Jim Lewis, in Lyons, Texas.

James grew up in Caldwell, Texas, and graduated from Caldwell High School. As a fourth grader James played the trumpet and marched with the high school band. He played football while in high school.

James went on to attend Southwest Texas State Teacher's College and graduated with a BBA in 1951. He played football while at 'TwaTwa" and also met the love of his life, Peggy Marie Randolph, in the library there.

James and Peggy married December 28, 1950, in Cherokee, Texas. After graduation, James was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict. He and Peggy moved to California, where he served and played football until 1953. He served in the Reserves for another six years.

After receiving an honorable discharge, James and Peggy moved to Crane, Texas; Houston, Texas; Jackson, Mississippi; and New Orleans, Louisiana, during his thirty-two year career as a gas accountant for Gulf Oil Corporation and then Chevron.

James was an avid football fan and golfer. He loved the Lord and attended services until his health began to fail. James worked hard at both the office and home. He mowed his own yard, and two neighboring widows' yards for many years.

James and Peggy had three children – Kathy Kim Swanger, Vicki Leigh Hermsdorf, and Karry Blake Lewis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Marie Lewis. He is survived by his three children, their spouses, Michael Hermsdorf and Sylvia Ruth Lewis, seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
