James "Jim" L. Ballentine fell into eternal rest on July 25, 2026, at his residence in Houston, Texas, with his loving family by his side.

Jim was born on February 10, 1945, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to William and Eva Nell Ballentine. He graduated from the University of North Carolina with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and remained a proud Tar Heel throughout his life.

After college, Jim made Houston his home and quickly fell in love with the city. Through a mutual acquaintance, he was introduced to Linda Mahaffey on a blind date. That single introduction blossomed into a beautiful love story, and the two shared 54 wonderful years of marriage until Linda's passing in 2023.

Jim enjoyed a successful career as a geophysicist with Amoco, where he worked for many years before retiring. He and Linda were faithful members of Grace Presbyterian Church and treasured the friendships and fellowship they found there.

An active and adventurous man, Jim loved spending time outdoors. Whether he was biking, duck hunting, camping, or traveling the country with Linda in their RV, he embraced every opportunity to explore and enjoy life. He rarely sat still and was happiest when staying busy.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked tirelessly to provide a loving home for his family and took great pride in raising his two children, Stacey and Marcus. His greatest joy was spending time with those he loved, and his steady presence, quiet strength, and unwavering love will be remembered always.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Ballentine; and his parents, William and Eva Nell Ballentine.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Blanchette and husband, Shane; his son, Marcus Ballentine; his cherished grandchildren, Sayde Blanchette, Phoenix Ballentine, and Parker Blanchette; his brother, Garry Ballentine and wife, Barbara; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Jim's legacy of love, dedication, hard work, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
