James "Jim" Roberts Gibbs, 83, of Cypress, Texas, went to be with our Lord on January 7, 2020. Born on August 28, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of Paul F. and Ruth A. Gibbs (née Bragg) of Greenfield, Indiana.
Jim graduated from Greenfield High School in Indiana. He was also a graduate of Indiana University (IU), with a Bachelor of Science degree, and where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. He retired from his career work as an accountant with Texaco, after 37 years, in 1999. He was a member of Cypress United Methodist Church.
Jim was an avid sports enthusiast and participated as a player in both basketball and baseball, in high school and at IU; as a coach of basketball, baseball and soccer; as well as an umpire and referee in baseball, basketball, soccer and football; and was extremely involved with the Cy-Fair Sports Association for over 30 years. He was a member of the National Association of Sports Officials and was elected to the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
Jim was the loving father of Sheryl Ann Gibbs (Michael "Mike" Sims) of Cypress, Texas, and Jeffrey Alan Gibbs (predeceased, 1998); beloved grandfather ("Growley") of Brielle Alana and Brennan Ava, and step-grandfather to Ashlyn Marie Sims and Lauren Michelle Sims; cherished brother of Margaret Gibbs of Richmond, Virginia, and John Gibbs (predeceased) of Tybee Island, Georgia; with treasured nieces Susan Ramsey (Chris) and Kristine "Kit" Brady, and nephews, David Brady, Scott Gibbs (Shannon) and Steven Gibbs. His great niece, Castle Hazzard (Scott), and great nephews, Jimmy Ramsey and Wes Ramsey also held special places in his heart.
A memorial service will be held at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, Texas, 77375, on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10 a.m. A grave side service and burial will be held in the coming weeks at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana, information for that is forthcoming.
