Obituary

James (Jim) Edwin Ross, 87, passed away on August 10, 2025, in Conroe, Texas. He was born on April 25, 1938, in Pontiac, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 66 years, Joyce Marie Ross, his parents Herschel and Fleecie Ross, step-father, Curt Boone, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marion and Everett Simmonds, his sister, Norma, sisters-in-law, Ardith, Dee, brothers-in-law, Don, Roger, Tom, great-grandson, Camden.

Jim is survived by his four children: Deborah (Jeff), Cynthia (Rob), Terry (Robert), and William. Grandchildren: Samantha (Robert), Lyndsey (Mark), Robbie, Ashley, Mia, and Sara (Justin).  Great-grandchildren: Karly, Tanner, Cece, Nathan, Benson, Beau, Wyatt, Layne, Tyler, and Remington.  Siblings: Sis (Larry), Tom, Kay (Tom) and Mary Jo. Also, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jim enjoyed a long and successful career with UPS, where he was admired for his sharp mind, quick wit, and dedication to his work. After retiring at the age of 55, he and Joyce spent their years traveling the world with family and friends, as well as playing both good and bad golf.

One little-known aspect of Jim and Joyce's life together was the depth of their generosity. Married young and beginning their life with very little, they did not have the opportunity to pursue college themselves. Determined to give their family what they had not been able to achieve, they ensured that every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild would have a fully paid college education by the time they turned 18.

Their giving spirit extended far beyond their family. Grateful for the life they had built together, Jim and Joyce became longtime supporters of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. They donated faithfully for decades, and in 2022 they were honored as Philanthropists of the Year. Their contributions helped fund a new wing at St. Jude equipped with cutting-edge technology.

To us, he was Dad, Grandpa, and Pa. He will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
