James (Jim) Douglas Liner, 84, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 1, 1939 in Houston, Texas and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1957 where he enjoyed success as a member of the football team. Jim began working at a young age. He worked his way through college and graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Houston in 1965. After teaching mathematics for a short time, he made a career of selling industrial minerals or "fancy" dirt as he explained to his girls. He retired as the Vice President of Sales of Excalibur Minerals in 2010. His favorite part of the job was getting to know his colleagues and customers.

Jim met his wife of almost 57 years and the love of his life, Barbara Ann Jones, on a blind date in 1964. They were married in Bay City, Texas on July 30, 1966. The couple eventually settled in Pasadena, Texas and welcomed two daughters.

Jim was a firm believer in God and while living in Pasadena, served as a Sunday school teacher and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Pasadena. Jim was active in his community. He was a member of Rotary International, served as President of the Lockwood-Clinton Rotary Club and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He enjoyed the camaraderie and the service opportunities through Rotary, but the highlight of his service was his work on the committee responsible for awarding international scholarships through the Rotary Foundation.

Family was always one of the most important parts of Jim's life. It was his love for his family and their love for him that sustained him, especially during his long fight with Parkinson's Disease. He never wanted to miss a moment with his wife, children and grandchildren and looked forward to his time spent with them. Even though he traveled for work, he made a point to always be there for his children's and grandchildren's activities and events. Jim loved unconditionally and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family or friends. He will be remembered for his willingness to help, his loving heart, his mentorship and his thoughtfulness.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Vernon Liner and Mary Melbarie (Hosea) Windham. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Jones) Liner, daughter Doniell Marie (Liner) Washburn and her son Mark Lynn Washburn, Jr. of Tomball, Texas, daughter Jamie Lynn (Liner) Anderson, her husband Mark Noble Anderson, Jr. and their children Catherine Elizabeth, Lauren Elyse and Caleb Aldric of Tomball, Texas, son James Michael Kelly, his wife Suzan Kay Kelly of Sugar Land, Texas and their children Michael Cody Kelly, his wife Kendahl Marie and their children Boone Reid and Hayes Marie of Sugar Land, Texas and Caitlyn Ann Kelly of Houston, Texas; sister Charleene (Liner) Bridwell and her husband Gary of Humble, Texas and brother Ronnie Windham and his wife Sandy of Timberon, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Klein Funeral Home Chapel, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Klein, Texas 77379. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas 77055.
