James (Jim) Paul Brooks, 87, a beloved father, grandfather "Pop", brother and friend, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Martha Brooks, his sister Billie Joyce Larr and his parents Genevieve and Balford Brooks. Jim was born in Heidenheimer, Texas and spent his youth in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Adamson Highschool in 1950. Jim, at age 19, was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. After returning home, in 1955, Jim attended Abilene Christian College until he had to return home to help out his family. Once back in Dallas, Jim went to work for the T&P Railroad, and in 1956, he visited the Trinity Heights Church of Christ with a friend and was introduced to Martha Ann Willard. He fell head over heels in love with her, and they married at Trinity Heights Church on June 13, 1958. They were married for 58 years until Martha's passing in 2017.

In 1961 Jim graduated with a degree in Business Administration at from the, then, Arlington College (now UT Arlington) and was hired by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for a job in sales. Jim was given the Houston territory, so the couple moved to Southwest Houston where they made their home at 11523 Hillcroft Dr. in Westbury. They had two children, Lori and Eric, who revered and treasured their dad.

In 1972, Jim moved his family to the FM 1960 area in Northwest Houston. Jim was a member of the Bammel Road Church of Christ for over 40 years and was very involved in teaching classes ministering to and sharing the Gospel with others. In 1997 Jim was introduced to IMPACT Houston Church of Christ and their mission to bring the love of Jesus Christ to all people, and his passion was ignited. He became very active in aiding and ministering to the homeless and impoverished in Houston. In 2007 the Brooks Scholarship Fund, which recognizes that education is the key to ending generational poverty, was created in his honor. He was dedicated to using all of his resources to raise money for the scholarship fund. To date, 50 young people have graduated from college. Each was the first in their families to have gone to college and graduate. Jim kept track of each one and praised their successes.

Jim Brooks was a warm, kind, compassionate, Godly, loving man; full of laughter, joy and corny jokes. He touched the lives of so many and will be truly missed. He is survived by his daughter Lori and son-in-law Blake Kretz of Arlington, TX; his son Eric and daughter-in-law Cindy Brooks of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren who absolutely adored him; Nicole Kretz, Michael Kretz, Jack Brooks and Liam Brooks; sisters Sandra Sue McAllister of Abilene, TX and Sharon Stone of Fort Worth TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
