Jacquelyn "Jackie" Erskine Pettigrew was born March 23, 1931 in Emporium, PA. Jackie passed peacefully in her sleep March 11, 2023 after a twelve-year battle with Bulbar ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Jackie graduated from Penn State University and was a lifetime member of AOPi sorority. Right out of college, she left for Europe and thus began her love for travel. When she returned home, Jackie was an inspector for the USDA which allowed her to travel across the United States. While working in Florida she met Paul Pettigrew and they married July 16, 1955. They settled down in Paul's hometown of Winter Haven, FL and started their family. After 16 years in Florida, Jackie and her family moved to Houston. While living in Houston, she began her 34 year career as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker United Realtors. In 1981, she added the title "Nana" to her resume, and in 2007 she started her role as "Great-Nana."
Jackie was energetic and enthusiastic in everything she set out to accomplish. She was an avid reader. She was an equestrian who loved anything that involved horses. She loved classical music, cooking fancy meals for her family, eating gourmet food, attending the theater, and browsing museums. She involved her family in all of her adventures.
Jackie had a fierce zeal for life. She rarely said no to any adventure. Even at 80 years old she would not accept being told to "act her age." Everyone said she was too "old" to do the things she loved. She hiked in the mountains, traveled to Europe, rode horses, attended group fitness classes regularly, and rode motorcycles. When she was diagnosed with ALS one of her daughters asked her what she would like to do from her bucket list, and Jackie replied "I've been living my bucket list." Through her ALS diagnosis, she determined to fight every day in order to enjoy life.
Jackie is proceeded in death by her parents, George and Marie Erskine, her brother William "Bill" Erskine and her husband Paul.
Jackie and Paul are survived by their three children Jeff Pettigrew, Jane Collins and husband Dean, Patricia "Pat" Pettigrew, two grandchildren Brandon Collins and wife Bonnie, Bryan Collins and wife Jennifer, and six great-grand children Audrey (16), Everett (13), Lincoln (12), Cooper (9), Riley (8) and Jacob (2).
Special thanks to her loving caretakers Christina Lacayo, Kathy Nelson, and Gaye Quinn. Thank you for everything. We couldn't have made this journey without you. Jackie loved and appreciated each of you.
