The Rev. Jack Worsham (1941-2017)
Jack Worsham entered this world at his family's home on Jan. 16, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, welcomed by his parents, John Knox Worsham and Jimmie E. Worsham, as well as his big sister, Jo Edene. His early education was in Dallas, where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1959.
With the help of good friends at his hometown church, Lakewood Methodist, he chose to become a Methodist minister, attending Lon Morris Junior College before graduating from Oklahoma City University in 1965 with a degree in religion. Jack then entered Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. There he met Suzie Wheat in one of his classes, a relationship that eventually went from fellow students to husband and wife.
While still in seminary, Jack began serving in the Texas Conference as a student pastor at Mount Sylvan/Union Chapel near Tyler. After graduating from Perkins he was appointed to the Houston area, first serving at Bethany United Methodist Church close to the Astrodome before being ordained into full connection as elder in the Methodist Church.
During the years that followed, Jack and Suzie served in a number of congregations in the Texas Annual Conference, including churches in Texarkana, Tyler, Henderson, Houston, Woodville, DeKalb and Porter. Jack retired from active ministry after serving at Lakewood United Methodist Church in northwest Houston.
After facing numerous health issues since 2001, Jack finally succumbed to a peaceful passing on Nov. 18, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Suzie, a retired teacher and Christian educator, their sons, Jeremy and Jayme (Shauna), and grandchildren Emma, Kerena, and Jesse. Surviving him as well are his niece Debbie Gattenby and family and nephew Jack Stembidge and family.
Also surviving him are countless wonderful, faithful friends that he and Suzie made in the churches they served.
