Jack was born on April 27, 1929 at home to Gus and Dale Schulz in Evansville, IN. He loved to play sports and was a member of the Indiana State Champion basketball team in 1945 at Bosse High School. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1947. Jack joined the Louisville & Nashville railroad after high school and worked there until he was laid off. He then began selling Mercury automobiles including selling 3 new cars to the "Sons of the Pioneers" country and western band in a single day. He rejoined the railroad as a Passenger Conductor and then a Freight Conductor in the mid-1960s and retired from the railroad in 1989 at the age of 60. He took up the game of golf upon retirement and played 3-4 times per week through all seasons for the next 25 years. He was a big fan of the Indiana University and University of Evansville basketball teams, attending many games in Evansville. He loved sitting in the front yard with a glass of iced tea and listening to Harry Caray and Jack Buck broadcast St. Louis Cardinal baseball games. After moving to Texas, he continued his love of baseball by becoming an Astros fan and attended several games per year before it became too difficult to walk. He became a Longhorn fan when his granddaughter attended UT and was able to attend a Thanksgiving game in person to watch his grandson work as a manager for the team. He often listened to the Gaither Vocal Band and enjoyed listening to TV Evangelists. While he was always an excellent cook, he began making pies in his later years and shared them with neighbors, family, and at pot luck dinners. Church was a foundational element to his life and he worshiped at Bible Center Cathedral in Evansville, IN for 29 years before joining River of Praise in 2002.

Jack is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 58 years. He has two sons, Ken (Pattie) and Tom (Nancy) and 4 grandchildren; Elizabeth Huebert (Ben) of Jacksonville, FL, Ali Carr (George) of Philadelphia, Carly Schulz of Austin, and Reid Schulz of Austin. He also has 4 great grandchildren, Zoey and Hollis Huebert and Violet and Henry Carr.
