Obituary

Rev. Jack Allen Brewer, 88, passed away peacefully due to Alzheimer's disease on Nov. 19, 2021 in Tomball, Texas. He was born April 13, 1933 in Elmore City, Oklahoma. Graduating at 16 from high school, he attended East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma for a year before joining the Air Force. He served at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio as a Gunnery Instructor on B-29's during the Korean War.

In 1953, he married his high-school sweetheart, Carolyn Wright. He called her his "golden-haired girl". They were married for 68 years.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force he completed his college degree and then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth where he earned his Master's of Religious Education degree. He served as a Youth Minister and Education Minister at six churches over the years, (including Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston), before he became the first Executive Director of Boy's Country and Girl's Country of Houston, located in Hockley, Texas. He served there from 1971until his retirement in 1993.

Jack was a prolific writer and wrote for the SBC Sunday School Board for several years, as well as for Open Windows and other varied publications and newspapers. He also authored several books.

Among the many honors and awards he received was the National Jefferson Award in 1977. It is an award that honors those persons who have put others first in extraordinary public service.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his granddaughter Jenny Wessinger. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Brewer, and a sister Donna Price. Also his three children Dr. Lee A. Brewer (Cheryl) of Conroe, Texas; Lisa Brewer Buffaloe (Dennis) of Florence, Alabama; and Lynn Brewer of Spring, Texas. He also has four grandchildren: Scott Buffaloe, Kelly Brewer, Annabelle Wessinger Stuart (Collin), and Taylor Wessinger.
