(July 24, 1924 – May 8, 2024)

Ivan Glenn Rice passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024 with family by his side.  He was born in Phoenix, Arizona, where he grew up, learned to play the violin and viola as a youth and was in his high school orchestra. He also enjoyed his woodworking classes in high school.  After high school he was drafted into the Army and proudly  served over in France during World War II. When the war was over, he came back to Phoenix and attended the University of Arizona and earned his Mechanical Engineering degree.  He met Carolyn R Keyes while in college.  They were married in 1950 after his college graduation.  After several moves, they settled in Houston, Texas where he had a successful career designing and developing gas turbines.  He became a world traveler, traveling to England, Ireland, North Sea, Saudi Arabia, the Soviet Union, Germany, Japan among other countries.  He also enjoyed woodworking making several string instruments as well as furniture and other projects. He was active in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Boy Scouts and church.  He gave the gift of music to his three children by providing them lessons for string instruments.  In his later years Ivan and Carolyn enjoyed spending time in the Texas Hill Country watching the wildlife and looking at the Texas wildflowers.  He greatly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, and is survived by his three children, Tom, Kathy (Randy) and Jim(Laura),  grandchildren Matt(Heather dec), Heather, Chris(Lizzy) and Patrick(Katy), and 6 great grandchildren.
