Irma Tamez Laha, age 73, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Irma was born on April 13, 1953, in McAllen, Texas, to Isidro and Rachel Tamez. She later made her home in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1971.

On March 18, 1972, Irma married the love of her life, Billie Wayne Laha. Together, they built a life centered around faith and family and were blessed with three children: Scott, Leslie, and Brian. Irma and Billie shared 29 years of marriage before his passing on December 23, 2001.

Irma began working for Arthur Andersen in 1982, where she worked in Accounts Receivable until 2002. She later continued her career with Charlie Hudson & Associates, Vitruvian, and finally Tejas Research & Engineering, from which she retired.

Throughout her life, Irma remained devoted to her faith in Jesus Christ. She lived that faith through the way she loved others and through a generosity that came naturally to her. She was always willing to give, help, and make others feel cared for.

Becoming “Mimi” was one of the greatest joys of Irma’s life. She adored her grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to have her family together. Whenever they gathered, Irma could be counted on to take picture after picture to preserve the memories—sometimes so many that the family still laughs about the occasions when she discovered she had forgotten to put film in the camera.

Irma had a gift for making family gatherings feel special. She loved bringing everyone together, particularly around the holidays, and her family will always remember the foods that became uniquely hers. Thanksgiving would not have been the same without Irma’s cornbread dressing, and her Texas chocolate cake became another much-loved family tradition. For Irma, these were more than meals; they were another way of loving and caring for the people who meant the most to her.

Irma is survived by her mother, Rachel Tamez; her three children, Scott Laha and wife Julie, Leslie Freeman and husband Elliott, and Brian Laha and wife Jennifer; and her beloved grandchildren, Maddie, Levi, Aubrie, Kate, Lincoln, Violet, and Everest. She is also survived by her sisters, Nelda Brumbelow, Lydia Smiley, Hilda Back, and Diana Nesbit, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billie Wayne Laha; her father, Isidro Tamez; and her older brother, Julian Tamez.

After nearly twenty-five years apart, there is great comfort in knowing that Irma and Billie are together again in the presence of the Lord.

We will forever miss her beautiful smile.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with a graveside service to follow at Klein Memorial Park.
