With deep love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Ira Don Simmons, whose strength, wisdom, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He departed this earthly life on July 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience, hard work, and devotion to his family and friends.

Born on April 27, 1948, in Trinity, Texas, Ira lived a life marked by integrity, generosity, and a genuine appreciation for life's simple joys. He received his education at Hufsmith High School, proudly graduating with the Class of 1966 on May 23, 1966. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. After his military service, he built a respected career in cement work and welding, earning the admiration of coworkers and friends for his exceptional craftsmanship, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work, Ira embraced life with enthusiasm. He found happiness on horseback while trail riding, enjoyed the excitement of rodeos, and appreciated the peacefulness of hunting and fishing. He had a remarkable talent for repairing small engines and took pride in maintaining beautiful lawns, often turning ordinary yards into works of art. He also enjoyed collecting firearms and treasured every opportunity to spend time outdoors, creating lasting memories with family and friends. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength, and his legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he influenced.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father, L.B. Simmons; his mother, DeEtta Simmons; his devoted wife, Vivian Glover-Simmons; his loving sister, Gwendolyn Richardson; and his cherished son, IraPatrick Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory Latrell Shannon (Sam), Joe Nell Vick, Marcello Simmons (LoAn), Nichole Broussard, Ira Don Butler (Jozette), Shelly Butler, Isaac Richardson (Tiffany), and his bonus son, James Spellings (Mariah). He also leaves behind 17 beloved grandchildren, 4 treasured great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Wild Bunch Riding Club for their unwavering friendship, support, and love shown throughout the years. Your kindness and fellowship will always be remembered with sincere appreciation.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find peace in knowing that his life was one of purpose, honor, and love. His gentle spirit, steadfast character, and enduring legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his love will continue to guide us until we meet again.
