Ila Ruth Murff was born in Midway, Texas on July 14, 1921, and passed away in Houston, Texas on October 24, 2020.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Buddie A. Murff, and her daughter, June Elaine Murff Kirkland.
Ila is survived by her daughter, Becky A. Heptig; sons-in-law, Stephen W. Heptig, and Ron Kirkland; and grandchildren, Kevin Kirkland, Keith Kirkland, Stephen Heptig, Daniel Heptig, and Sarah von Sternberg.
After graduating valedictorian from high school in 1939, Ila attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women's University) graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She later attended Sam Houston State earning a Master's in Education.
Ila loved spending time with her family, working in the garden and traveling with her church group. After retiring as a public school teacher, Ila continued to develop her skills as a talented quilter and shared her passion with others. She taught classes, participated in quilt guilds and attended quilt retreats.
Her legacy was a life of service to others including her family, students, and fellow quilters.
For those who would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, Ila's family requests that donations be made in her name to Boot Campaign whose mission is to unite Americans to honor and restore the lives of veterans and military families through individualized, life-improving programs.
