Howard Lee Hultgren of Spring, Texas, age 91, died November 17, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Howard was born in McGregor, Iowa on June 2, 1931 the oldest of 5 children to John Alexis and Maude Elizabeth (Meyer) Hultgren.  He grew up in Garnavillo, IA and later moved to Albert Lea, MN.  He graduated from Albert Lea High School where he met his future wife Marjory Ann Daw.  After High School, he attended the University of Minnesota along with Marjory.  They soon married and moved to Waukon, IA.  There he became the Assistant Extension Advisor dealing primarily with 4-H youth.  He and Marjory eventually returned to the University of Minnesota where their first child was born.  A short time later, they moved back to Waukon, IA and then to various Chicago suburbs where their other 3 children were born.  There he worked in sales for Purina Feeds.  In 1956, Howard opened his State Farm agency in Batavia, IL.  As time went on, Howard had a very successful career with State Farm Insurance. He became an Agency Manager near La Grange, IL.  Then the family relocated to Bloomington, IL in 1961 when Howard was promoted to Agency Director for parts of the Chicago area.  After that, he was Agency Director for Southern Illinois for several years. Later, he served as an Executive Assistant for State Farm's Eastern Seaboard Zone.  In 1983, he and Marjory relocated to Richmond, TX, where he was an Agency Director for State Farm in the Houston area until his retirement in 1994.  After retiring, he lived half the year on Beaver Lake in Garfield, AR and half the year in Texas near Lake Conroe in Montgomery, TX., and in recent years, at The Village of Gleannloch Farms in Spring, TX.

Howard's lifelong passion was his relationship with God, family, friends and the love they all shared.  Over the years, he was active in several churches, active in the Gideon ministry and donated to local and international ministries.  Throughout his career and retirement, he was fortunate to be able to enjoy traveling with family and friends both domestically and internationally. He also enjoyed camping with family, flying his airplane, home improvement projects and running errands with family members.  He would often say things like, "Who wants to go with me to Walmart?"  Going on an errand was always a good way to have some one-on-one time with Dad.

Howard was preceded in death by his mother, Maude Elizabeth (Meyer) Hultgren, his father, John Alexis Hultgren, brother, Norman Hultgren and a baby sister. Survivors include: brother, David (Norma) Hultgren of Peoria, AZ, sister, Doris (Gary) Wiley of Dallas, TX, children; Paul (Christine) Hultgren of Lafayette CO, Charles (Joyce) Hultgren of Montgomery, TX, Elizabeth (Michael) Bosworth of Houston, TX, Susan (Ike) Chancellor of Bloomington, IL, grandchildren; Jill Albert of Roswell, GA, Mark Hultgren of Aurora, CO, Amanda (Joshua) Dayton of Willis, TX, Brian (Karina) Hultgren of Corvallis, OR, Lindsey (Alex) Dover of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX and 11 Great Grandchildren.
