Howard, beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend, passed away at the age of 79 at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Livingston, Texas, Howard loved the country and nature beginning at a young age.  After school and still a teenager, Howard enlisted in the Army.  Howard's service took him across the world to Korea, where he met his soulmate, Shirley Herring.  Theirs was a whirlwind romance that led to marriage after a few months.  Howard (literally) served time in jail for marrying Shirley, which he gladly did for his true love.  After being honorably discharged from the service, Howard and Shirley returned to Texas and began a life together.

During their 59 years of marriage, Howard and Shirley built a legacy.  Howard utilized his entrepreneurial spirit and love of working with his hands into a thriving business.  H&H Radio, a business founded by Howard, flourished for decades under Howard's watchful eye, providing both direct sales to the public and earning all of the Ford factory radio repair work for Austin, San Antonio and Houston.  H&H Radio even installed Willie Nelson's audio system in his Ford pickup truck!  H&H Radio was not Howard's only successful business endeavor.  He bought and managed many commercial properties.  Always busy and fiercely strong and independent, Howard insisted on mowing his five-acre homestead and performing his own carpentry and construction work, taking pride in his home and land.

From trips to Florida to Colorado to Arizona, Howard enjoyed traveling.  He even took the family on a little road trip all the way down to Mexico City.  He poured into his children with frequent camping trips and wilderness adventures.  You could oftentimes find Howard cruising around in his Ford truck listening to country music or reading a western novel.  Howard was also an avid golfer and volunteered at local PGA tournaments.

A believer in hard work and striving to do all things to the best of your ability, Howard lived a full life alongside Shirley and his family.  He is much loved and will be greatly missed.

Howard is survived by his loving wife (Shirley), his three children (Jeannie Whichard, Suzanne Janisch and Howard Herring II), four grandchildren (Jeremy Janisch, Samantha Janisch, Hannah Herring and Caroline Herring), son-in-laws (Michael Whichard and Michael Janisch), daughter-in-law (Danielle Herring) and faithful dogs (Jamie and Tippit).
