On March 17, 2019 Herbert Llewellyn Phillips of Houston, Texas passed away at 99 years and 9 months at Tomball Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Theresa M. Phillips. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Dorothy A. Zawadzki (Paul) of Coventry, RI and Kathleen L. Busby (Michael) of Spring, Texas. He was the proud grandfather of Deborah A. Betancourt (Richard) of Fort Worth, Texas, Susan L. Aslani (Koosha) of Tigard, Oregon, Daniel P. Zawadzki of Boston, Massachusetts, Jonathan D. Busby of Spring, Texas, and Anna R. Guthrie (Kevin) of Westminster, Colorado. He was great grandfather of six boys:  Ari G. Betancourt and Deven C. Betancourt of Fort Worth, TX; Simeon M. Guthrie, Phillip B. Guthrie, and William O. Guthrie of Westminster, Colorado; Cohen S. Aslani of Tigard, Oregon. He is survived by one sister, Marilyn A. Lord (Edwin) of Canton, Ohio. Predeceased by 4 brothers, Eugene Phillips, William Phillips, Paul Phillips, and James Phillips.

Herbert was born June 17, 1919 in Canton, Ohio to Mabel L. Whitehouse and Thomas A. Phillips. He worked in occupational health at Lyons Veterans Hospital, and then with Air-Reduction Company, both in New Jersey. After moving back to his home state of Ohio, he worked for 25 years at Timken Research Company as a metallurgical engineer prior to his retirement. He spent many years traveling around the world, with a special love for Hawaii and Disneyworld. He enjoyed all sports both watching and playing, and excelled in ping pong. He seemed to inherit his musical talent, artistic abilities and his writing of poetry from his father Thomas. He never met a person who he didn't talk to and within five minutes knew their life history!  Herb was known for his witty humor and kept us all laughing. He had a passion for life and learning!  He did this all in his 99 years!  He was a great organizer and leader. Eating and socializing were his favorite activities as the years passed.

Herbert was a lifelong member of the Christadelphian Church, being baptized on June 10, 1932. He was very active in the church as Sunday School Superintendent in New Jersey, Ohio and Texas. He was a patient, loving man known for helping others and will be missed by all who knew him. He now rests in peace awaiting the certain hope of resurrection to eternal life.

A celebration of his life will be held at a future date. The family would like to thank his doctor, caregivers and friends and all who have helped our beloved father especially in the past 6 months.
