Rev. Herbert Clarence Graf passed away peacefully at Woodhaven Assisted Living in Conroe, Texas on February 14, 2019. Herbert was born on October 29, 1929, (the exact day of the Great Depression) to Albert Carl and Olga Emma Mertink Graf at Vernon, Texas.
He became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on November 10, 1929 and later reaffirmed his Christian faith through the rite of Confirmation on April 19, 1942.
On August 4, 1957, Herbert married Jean Henningsen of Sparta, Wisconsin, a union that lasted 38 years until her death on March 28, 1996. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of four children- David, Sharon, Jonathan and Nathan.
On November 21, 1999, Herbert married Harriet Weyhrich Blumhorst,, a widow of a good friend. Survivors include his wife, Harriet; children, David, Sharon, Jonathan and Nathan; step-children, Paul and Rebecca, ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; sisters Ruby and Mildred; many relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 6:00 Sunday, February 17, 2019 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2100 Tickner in Conroe, Texas. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, February 18, 2019 at St Mark Lutheran Church, Rev. David Quail officiating. Burial will follow at Klein Memorial Park at 2:00pm. Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Heritage Foundation, 51474 Romeo Plank Road, Macomb, MI 48042 …or to "Veterans of the Cross", 1333 South Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122…or to the Deaf Program at Concordia Lutheran Seminary of Ft. Wayne, IN.
Pastor Graf served as a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Parish Pastor at Good Shepherd , Circle Pines, MN; Grace Lutheran Church, Seguin, TX; Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Freemont, CA; St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Westfield, TX; and St Mark Lutheran Church, Conroe, TX. In retirement he served with the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, an organization involved in translating Lutheran books worldwide. During his ministry he also served on the Board of Regents of Concordia University, Austin, TX for fourteen years, ten of those years as Chairman of the Board.
