Obituary

Henry Fredrick Knauf was born in Houston, Texas in 1934 and passed away on February 16, 2023.

He is preceded in death by parents William and Olga Knauf.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Knauf; daughters Renee Wood and husband Chuck; Rochelle Callahan and husband James; Charlotte Willeford; Cherie Wayland; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Dottie White and Diane Reese.

Henry proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957. Trained in internal ship communications, he crewed on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp and participated in several cruises. After his discharge from the Navy, Henry returned to Houston and married the love of his life Charlene , the Queen B, in 1959. The family unit grew to include four beautiful daughters, plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Henry worked in the engineering departments of construction companies that notably built the Astro Dome, NRG, the Berry Center, Moody Gardens, Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston, and numerous hospital and university improvement projects. In his spare time Henry enjoyed bass fishing with his good friend and neighbor Irvin Dornack. They were regulars in fishing tournaments at fresh water lakes around Texas. They particularly enjoyed regular fishing trips to fish Lake Dam B outside Woodville, Texas.

Henry enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was a very handy guy in caring for things around the house. He loved being active. Henry loved, most of all, his family. He was above all else passionate about his love of family and Country. Henry was old school. He was a man of honesty and honor. He could be counted on to do anything he said he would do. His word was his bond and his handshake was his pledge.

He will be sorely missed, but not forgotten.
