Helga Gertrud Hellriegel (nee Woehr) was born in Stuttgart, Germany on March 9, 1939 to Walter and Hedwig Woehr. She lived in Germany until the age of 13 when her parents emigrated to Canada and made their home in Niagara Falls. She met Walter Hellriegel through the local German immigrant community. They married when she was 19. They made their home in Lockport, New York, where they raised their three children, Heide, Caroline, and Philip. When the Chevrolet plant closed down in North Tonawanda, Walter was offered early retirement or a transfer to one of several locations where GM had factories. They chose Kokomo, Indiana, where they lived for about 8 years until Walter retired. They then moved to the Conroe/Magnolia area where they lived until Walter succumbed to Cancer. They were happily married for nearly 50 years. After Walter's passing, Helga purchased a townhome in The Woodlands and a few years later, she met and married Al Schuller. They were married for 12 years and did a lot of camping enjoying the natural beauty of the United States. Al passed away on August 21, 2022. On September 16, 2022, Helga also succumbed to Cancer and passed away in her home.
Helga was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Church all her life wherever she lived. She had a very robust commitment to her church life and participated in many ways as a member of the choir and the ladies guild and was involved in community service. Helga was a stay-at-home mom until her children were older and in school. She then went to work and earned her certification as an Executive Housekeeper, managing the housekeeping services in nursing homes, hospitals, and hotels in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area until they moved to Kokomo. In Kokomo and in Texas she worked part time in higher end clothing retail stores. Helga loved animals, especially dogs. She gave homes to several throughout her life. She is survived by her children; Heide, Caroline and Gerry, and Philip and Tami; grandchildren; Kristina, Nikolas and Krystal, Karli, Ryan and Brittany, Eric and Taylor, Andrew and Paige, and Tara and Kaitlin, and 10 great grandchildren; and her dog, Lola.
In leu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in her memory. A few of her favorites were Living Savior Lutheran Church, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Best Friends Animal Society.
