Helen Joanne Miller, age 85, went to be with her Lord on April 21, 2017. Jo was born on November 6th, 1931 near Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed at Antioch Christian Church in rural Wabash County, Illinois.
Jo grew up in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and attended the local schools. A popular student, she was involved in many different activities, but was especially interested in music and literature. She attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and English. After graduation, Jo taught music and English at Carmi High School in Carmi, Illinois.
It was during this time, she met the love of her life, Al, and the two were married on June 25, 1954. Al and Jo would build a life together over the next 56 years centered around faith and family. She gave her unconditional love to her three sons, her three daughters-in-law whom she considered as her own, and her seven beloved grandchildren.
Jo's kind and gentle spirit was evident to all. Her sweet smile and friendly nature were given to everyone freely. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years, Jo was involved in choir, food pantry ministry, Anna Circle, and as a volunteer in the church office. She enjoyed travel, reading, and music. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family. The happy sounds of a family gathering were always the sweetest music to her ears.
Jo was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who lived her life in a godly manner. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Dinnel Deputy and Mary Lucille (Shaw) Deputy, and her loving husband, Al Miller. Jo is survived by her sons: Eric and wife Susan, Craig and wife Cathi, Steven and wife Dalora, and seven grandchildren: Kristah and husband Nick Woolley, Sarah, Ava, Max and wife Samantha, Josh, Avery and Zachary. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Scherill Miller.
Visitation will be held for Jo on Tuesday, April 25th from 5-8 pm at Klein Funeral home located at 16131 Champion Forest Dr., Klein TX 77379. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5201 Spring Cypress Rd., Spring TX on Wednesday, April 26th at 11:00 am.
