Helen Ruth Priest Honea was born August 20, 1924 in Call, TX and she died May 23, 2024 in Cypress TX.   Helen was 99 years old.

Helen was proceeded in death by husband, Luke Honea and is survived by son Tom Warren, his wife Linda; son John Warren, and John's fiancée Patty Haas. Her grandchildren are Emily Spokes, Sarah Geiger and John C. Warren along with their spouses and four great grandchildren.

As the youngest of 5 children, Helen and her 3 brothers and 1 sister grew up in the depression.  Dad Charlie (Papaw) worked various jobs and Mother Blanche (Granny) kept the family fed and clothed in the Piney Woods of Texas. At one point in those years, the family lived in a boxcar that moved crews from logging camp to logging camp.  This experience taught Helen grit, determination, resilience, and a drive to succeed.

Helen graduated from South Park High School in 1941 at Beaumont, TX.  She was a wartime bride and worked a civilian job at Ft. Meade, Maryland, while her husband served in the Army.

After the war, she raised her boys, Tom and John as a single mother.  In 1960 Helen received her bachelor's degree in education at Lamar University Beaumont, TX; and in 1967 she received her master's degree as well. Helen became a schoolteacher where she taught for 15 years in Beaumont and surrounding areas.

Helen was a longtime church member at Calder Baptist Church in Beaumont.  She was also an accomplished artist.  Her other hobbies were quilting and playing golf at her home in Wildwood, Texas.  Her family, especially her grandchildren loved their visits to the Lake.  Summer days at "Grammie's Camp" would always include some organized activities such as: fishing, swimming, horseback riding, and driving the golf cart, as well as arts, crafts, and cookie baking.  Her grandkids love her dearly.

In 2002 Helen moved to Cypress Tx to be nearer to family.  She continued to teach Sunday School, travel and spend time with her beloved family for her last 20 years. Recent health setbacks took its toll on Helen but she made her wishes known so that the family could provide for her in her final days.

Mom, Grammy, Aunt, child of God Helen, believed in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  We know that she is now at peace and has joined all of her loved ones that have gone before.
