Heinz Schaffner was born in Schinznach-Dorf, Switzerland on March 10, 1943, and passed away in Houston, Texas on April 8, 2022, at the age of 79.

Heinz served in the Swiss Merchant Marines before moving to the United States in 1965 and earning his dual citizenship.  He soon became a respected Hotel and Property Manager where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career, before retiring in early 2021. He instilled upon his 3 sons the value of working hard to provide for their families.

Like most Swiss, Heinz didn't shy away from good food, particularly fine cheese and bread (he referred to American sandwich bread as "sawdust bread"). He had a passion and talent for cooking; and his wife and sons have long claimed that he could make anything taste great. He was handy around the house, having built an extra room onto the family's home in San Antonio, and would often repurpose items he would bring home from one of his hotels.  His sons remember all too well…the "hot tub".

Heinz will be remembered for his kind-hearted personality and for his adventurous spirit.  He was always positive and rarely said a bad thing about anyone. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Hedwig, and his brother, Robert.

Heinz is survived by his loving wife, Debra Schaffner; his sons, Mark Schaffner and wife Jena, Robert Schaffner and wife Julia, and Eric Schaffner and wife Rita; grandchildren, Sadie, Tully, Duke, Katelyn, Caleb, Raylee, Amanda, Luke, and Kate; great-grandchildren, Elsie and Nickson; and siblings Werner and wife Ruth, and Lori and husband Kurt.

A funeral service for Heinz will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Dr., Spring, TX 77379 .  He will be laid to rest in Klein Memorial Park in Cypress, TX immediately following the funeral service.
