Heather Suzanne Leek was born on August 8, 1972 in Edison, New Jersey. She was born with several complicated health issues but began a lifetime of defying the odds with the love and support of her mother and father, Bill and Joanne Leek. Heather faced her challenges with perseverance and determination. She often turned a doctor's "can't" into a "Yes! I can!" She attended the Lab School in Washington, DC where she excelled at reading and writing. She competed in Special Olympics and loved bowling and bike races. She was a Girl Scout and graduated from Grapevine High School in 1992.
At a very young age Heather began playing piano by ear and soon followed by learning to play the violin and reading music. Her talent was a marvel and a joy she shared with family, friends and her church. It was truly a gift.
Heather was a daughter. She was a big sister. She was a loving aunt. She was a friend. She treasured time with her family and friends. She loved to learn about Jesus. Her Sunday school teachers, confirmation teachers and pastor meant the world to her. Heather loved unconditionally and knew that love in return.
Heather met each day full of challenges with kindness, cheer and a love of life. She started thinking about dessert before she ordered her meal. She treasured every stuffed animal in her huge collection. She loved the daily excitement of "The Price is Right" and celebrated with the winning contestants. She started planning her birthday months ahead. Her true happiness in such simplicity is something we should all stop to enjoy. Eat the dessert. Find what you truly love and hold on tight. Celebrate the milestones. Lift one another up. Focus on the good instead of the bad. Love unconditionally.
