Harry Armon Pratorius, Jr.
July 6, 1938 – June 2, 2022 (83)
Our dad entered into eternal rest from heart failure after an extended hospital stay. He was a native Houstonian and attended Cleveland Elementary, Washington Jr. High and Reagan High School graduating in 1957.
At a young age, he shined shoes on Washington Ave. and later worked at Cookies Café as a soda jerk. When he was 15 yrs. old, he began working for Weingarten's making a career in the grocery business as a meat cutter. Through the years he was employed by Globe, Rice Food Market, Lewis & Coker and retired from Randall's Super Market after 20 yrs. of service. He also worked for a meat packing plant earlier on even buying cattle for the plant to process.
Our dad loved to listen to music and loved to read. His favorite subject was US war history. He was very proud when he learned all of the rankings in the military so that he could identify rank when watching a war movie.
He is predeceased by his mother Ethel Dyer, stepdad Don Dyer, sisters Charlene Helmer and Rosie Walker, brother Robert Pratorius and one very special niece Sabrina Walker Sirota.
He is survived by his brother Donnie Pratorius, sister Frances England, and sister-in-law Linda Pratorius. His children: son Harry (Bebo) Pratorius III, daughter Terrie Pratorius, daughter Karen Adams, husband Russell. Paulette Howard (mother of his children), husband Alex. Grandchildren: Andrew Pratorius, wife Cristin, Aimee Pratorius, Aaron Pratorius and Taylor Brueckner, husband Bobby, James and Nathan Adams. Great Grandchildren: Brynley and Addison Brueckner, Tristan Pratorius, mom Jess and Gabriella Pratorius. Additionally, The Sam Commiato Family and Ex Daughter-in-law Beth Vogel, husband Rick. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be greatly missed at family gatherings for his storytelling.
A very special thank you to my dad's medical caregivers over the years: Ira H. Lieber, MD, Jennifer Greenblatt, DO, Alan B. Lumsden, MD, Charudatta S. Bavare, MD and Nexus Specialty Hospital The Woodlands 2nd Floor ICU medical staff. Lastly, thank you to the special attention he was given by the Target CVS/Cypresswood pharmacy friends.
