Obituary

Harry Albert Gill, 92, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Harry was the oldest of three sons born on July 7, 1924 to Harry and Beatrice (Bartlett) Gill in Sharon, Pennsylvania.

Harry served as a Naval Reservist while attending The University of Virginia and later continued his education at Ohio Wesleyan University. He met his beautiful bride, Dorothy Helen (Johnson) Gill in 1943 and the couple married on March 28, 1948 in Youngstown, Ohio. After moving to Conneaut, Ohio, Harry became Owner and President of Gill Chevrolet Buick; his life's work until the day he retired.

As a young man, Harry achieved the Boy Scott's highest honor; that of Eagle Scott and was also a member of his high school football team. During his college years, he was a member and officer of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Later in life, Harry served as President of the Conneaut Chamber of Commerce (1966). As a Rotarian, Harry served the Conneaut Chapter as its' President (1975-76), was named a Paul Harris Fellow, and received a lifetime Honorary Achievement Award from Rotary International. As member of the Blue Lodge of the Masonic Temple, Harry progressed to the level of Third Degree-Master Mason and continued on to become a Shriner. Harry also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the local hospital system as well as for the First United Methodist Church in Conneaut, Ohio. Additional affiliations included membership in the Elks Club and a 70-year member of the American Legion.

Harry loved to spend time with his family and friends and had a lifelong love of travel. His travels enabled him to see much of the world and make many dear friends. After moving to Houston, Texas he became actively involved with various groups at the Cypress Fairbanks YMCA and greatly enjoyed activities and friendships with the "Young at Heart" folks from Messiah Luther Church.

Harry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; Son, Roger (Connie) Gill; Son, Gary (Trudy) Gill; Daughter, Janet (Robert) Rogers and Daughter-in-law, Judy Gill. Son, David Gill preceded Harry in death in 2015. Harry is also survived by brother Ronald E. Gill, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church located at 11522 Telge Rd, Cypress, Texas 77429 at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Harry's name to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
