A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF HAROLD T. SLATER

Harold Turner Slater was born November 5, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Percy and Alla Bee Slater and passed away at the age of 86 on July 1, 2021. He grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Reagan High School. He served in The National Guard for 4 years. In 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Kyburz, at Woodland Baptist Church in Houston. Harold began a lifetime career, that he loved, in the engineering field of piping design, where he made numerous lifelong friends. He was the father of three sons, Ricky, Wayne and Alan, who all shared their love of nature, the outdoors and motorcycles. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who shared the passion of racing all over Texas, including a few indoors at the Astrodome.

After divorcing in 1974, Harold was later married to Meredith Benesh in 1979, with whom he spent the next 35 years. Harold moved from Houston to Leslie, Arkansas in 1981. He had a love for flying his ultralight aircraft while living there, drawing the attention of drivers and neighbors and making the local newspaper headlines. His love for flying also included countless hours as a licensed pilot, flying his private aircraft.

He later moved to Warren, Texas where he spent the next 20 years perfecting his knife making skills, raising his blackbuck antelope, shooting pool and playing music with his friends.

In 2016, he left East Texas and moved to our ranch in Mountain Home, Texas where he continued to dazzle people with his knife making skills and incredible knowledge.

Harold always had a passion for engines, whether rebuilding or repairing, he could fix them all – including cars, trucks, dump trucks, Bobcats, and of course motorcycles.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents Percy and Alla Bee Slater, and his twin sister, Harriet.

He is survived by his sons, Rick Slater (and daughter-in-law Chaille), Wayne Slater, Alan Slater (and daughter-in-law Suzan); grandchildren Dustin and Sheridan Slater, Amber and Drew Knowles, Derek and Ashley Slater, and Shannon Slater; great-grandchildren Adelyn Knowles, Judah Knowles, Keagan Slater, Oliver Knowles, Josiah Knowles, Hunter Slater, and Austin Slater. Also surviving Harold are his sister, Marialice and his brother-in-law, Robert Hampton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
