Obituary

Harold Henry Kolkhorst, 88, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017 with his family surrounding him with prayers and love.
Harold was born on November 23, 1928 to Henry and Alvina (Reue) Kolkhorst in Washington, Texas. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Frieden's United Church of Christ.  He was raised in the Washington community and attended the Browns Prairie School.  He continued his education in the public schools in Navasota where he graduated from Navasota High School in 1946.  He went to work for Carnation Milk Company in Brenham.  He was drafted into the U.S Army in January of 1951 and on May 17, 1951 he married the love of his life, Johnnie Mae Schulte. He served in the Korean War where he was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts.
Harold worked for Carnation Milk Company for 20 years and then for the next 7 years worked for Matcote Paint Co.  In 1973, he joined his brother in law, Johnie Schulte, at Midwest Steel Building Company as a part owner and they worked together until his retirement in November of 1997.
Johnnie and Harold were blessed with two sons, Gary and Kenny. Harold loved the game of baseball and passed that love on to his sons.  He coached them from Little League forward and taught them how to play the game of baseball and the game of life the way it should be played.  The family faithfully followed their ball teams from Little League through college.  They loved attending any event where their grandchildren or great grandchildren were performing, on a stage, field, or court.
Harold was a faithful follower of our Lord and Savior and attended various Lutheran churches where he served in many capacities. Harold was most recently a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Harold had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh.  He readily opened up his home to others and loved to help in any way he could.  He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and dominoes, watching all sports and old western movies, and going to the casinos.  But his greatest joy was being with his wife and family.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alvina Kolkhorst, mother in law and father in law, Elsie and Johnie Schulte, brothers and sisters in law, Raymond and Ethel Kolkhorst, Robert and Bernice Kolkhorst, sister in law and brother in law, Marian "Sugar" and Earl Kolkhorst, brother in law and sister in law, Johnie, Jr. "Bubba" and Barbara Schulte, and brother in law, Charles Schulte.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Johnnie; his sons and daughters in law, Gary and Kathy Kolkhorst and Kenny and Veniece Kolkhorst; grandchildren, Jenny and Tim Sanchez, Chris and Ann Marie Kolkhorst, Krystal and Tanner Moy, Todd and Kelsey Kolkhorst, and Mandy Kolkhorst; and great-grandchildren, Ryder, Eli, Colt and Walker Sanchez, Coy and Cydney Kolkhorst, Cy and Saige Moy, and Liam Kolkhorst. Also, sister and brother in law, Lucille and Bill Raethka, sister in law and brother in law, Mary "Puddin" and Charles Barnes, sister in law, Mary Ann Schulte, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to express a special gratitude to caregivers Joy Robertson and Charlene Frazier for their dedicated service and to Mike Rodriguez, foreman of the Hempstead farm, for his service and friendship.
Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Chris Kolkhorst, Todd Kolkhorst, Tim Sanchez, Tanner Moy, and nephews, Danny Kolkhorst, Bobby Kolkhorst, Charlie Barnes Jr., and John Schulte.
Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 14, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, at Klein Memorial Park, 32539 SH 249, Pinehurst, TX 77362.  A memorial service will also be held on Tuesday, August 15, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 4040 Watonga Houston, TX 77092, beginning at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Harold with memorials to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
