Hannah Laura Ortiz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and follower of God, went to live with the angels on December 8th, 2021, after a lengthy battle with lung disease.

Laura is preceded in death by her loving husband Naval Antonio (Tony) Ortiz, her parents Jacob and Marie Sax, and her brother, Norman Sax. She is survived by her dedicated children: Lance Ortiz, Laurence Ortiz, Cheryl Trimbach, and Charlene Ortiz; as well as her nine devoted grandchildren: Nicholle White, Jacquelyn Trimbach, Alexandra Trimbach, Danielle Ortiz, Eli Ortiz, Journey Ortiz, Anthony Ortiz, Jaeger Rasmussen, and Nicholas Ortiz.

Laura was born November 4, 1939, in the Bronx, New York; she bravely relocated to the West Coast in 1961, when her husband joined the U.S. Marine Corps. The staunch New Yorker, who amazingly never lost her native accent, eventually adapted into her new role as a strong wife and mother, especially when her husband was serving overseas tours.

Laura was an extremely talented artist and created many works of art in her younger years. She was also very gifted with her cooking, crafts, sewing, crocheting, and eventually quilting. Laura's passion for quilting really brought her the most joy and long-lasting friendships in her life, and she thoroughly relished her girl "gab time" for many, many years. Her existing vast collection of material and all-things quilting are testament to that!

Laura very much treasured all her collections of eclectic "stuffies" which surrounded her everywhere and brought her so much happiness. Her house was one of amazement for her grandchildren when they were all young, as Grandma not only had her yummy chocolate chip cookies ever-present in the cookie jar, but also she had just about every toy imaginable. She truly adored her grandchildren and loved having them visit with her.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday, January 28, at the Christ the Redeemer Church, 11507 Huffmeister Road, Houston, TX, with a Celebration of Life Reception to be held immediately afterwards at the church.
