Gretchen Algire Beaird

September 15, 1922 – January 20, 2019

Gretchen Algire Beaird, 96, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Services will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Klein Memorial Park Chapel in Tomball, Texas.

Gretchen was born September 15, 1922 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Catherine Algire. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Harrison L. Beaird; her daughter Bonnie Peterson; and her sister Mary Cowan.

Gretchen spent her early years in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She married the love of her life, Harrison Beaird and soon moved to Texas. Gretchen and Harry raised their three children in Corpus Christi, Texas before moving to Houston, Texas in the early seventies. They were long-time members of Spring Woods United Methodist Church where Gretchen was dedicated in service to the church and its many events, including weddings, luncheons, and her famous hat shows. She was an exceptional leader and event planner, and enjoyed cooking, sewing, decorating, gardening and collecting antiques. Her biggest joys were her children and grand-children whom she delighted in at every opportunity. She was greatly loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed.

Gretchen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gretchen and Don Reed of Frisco, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law John "Buddy" and Peggy Beaird of Waco, Texas; her son-in-law Paul Peterson of Victoria, Texas; her grandchildren Harrison Peterson and wife, Robin; Ashley Reed and wife, Libbie; Allison Hickman and husband, Jonathan; Ben Beaird and wife, Lindsay; Travis Beaird; Katie Beaird; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
