Obituary

Girlyn Karan was born in July 1935 in the island of Trinidad and Tobago to Kanick Jagroop and Mangree Desai. She was raised in Enterprise Chaguanas.

In 1955, Girlyn met her husband Rohit David Karan and the two were married. They moved to Piarco Village where they had five children Trevor, Dianna (Anna), Gideon (Jerry), Valerie and Eileen (deceased).

Her life was one of intense sacrifice and great devotion to her Lord Jesus. She accepted Christ upon receiving her divine healing of her both feet. She went on to testify of her healing to many others over the years. Girlyn served the Lord faithfully at the Assembly of God, Central Vineyard Ministries, Greater Dimension Ministries and Metropolitan Baptist Church in Houston.

A major event occurred in 1963 when it was determined that she was born with a "hole in her heart". This devastating news was yet another challenge for the family. She put her faith in Jesus and went on to be one of the first few to have open heart surgery in New York. That was when she gave birth to her last daughter Valerie.

Girlyn was resourceful, thrifty, meticulous and fanatical about attention to detail. These qualities must have been because of her early career as the village seamstress. She outfitted many ladies and young girls with beautiful dresses for weddings, church and social events.

In all her busyness with a husband, 4 children and church activities, she still found time to plant crops of corn, pigeon peas, vegetables and fruit trees. Whatever she planted with flourished and bloomed. She gave freely of her produce to friends and neighbors. She raised chickens, ducks, always had a pet dog, and even a talking parrot.

Her desire was to see her children become educated and self-sufficient. she was able in her later years to count her many blessings coming out of her devotion and sacrifice. With no formal education she practiced common sense economics, accounting and finance in the family's business.

Girlyn's influence is evident through her four children Valerie, Gideon, Dianna and Trevor. Grand children who love her dearly are Shaloma, Caleb, Adeline, Andrea, Arielle, Allison and Jillian. She was blessed to see two great grandchildren Alexandra and Christian.

Siblings include sister Basdaye Ballie, brothers Boyer Kanick, Dindial Kanick and Ramsundar (Bozan) Kanick (deceased).

She will be missed by son-in law Richard Godfrey, daughters-in-law Ethel and Esther Karan and grand-in-laws Jonathan Mohr, Carlos Lopez and Kelly Karan.

Girlyn passed on peacefully on Sunday at age 83 after saying goodbyes to all her family.

There will be a private Cremation in Houston.

Later, a Memorial Service and interment at Belgroves, Trincity in Trinidad at a date to be announced.
