It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share that our beloved father, Gilberto Madrigal, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 10:20 a.m.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Margarita Madrigal; brother Santos Madrigal Jr.; sister Irma Madrigal; and his son Gilberto Madrigal, Jr.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yolanda (Moran) Madrigal; daughters Elsa (David) Gallegos and Joanne (Raymond) Estrada; grandchildren Maegan, David Jr and Sophia Gallegos; brothers and sisters Mario (Beatriz) Madrigal of San Antonio, Gloria (Romeo) Garcia of Laredo,  Jorge (Alma) Madrigal of San Juan, Sara Leal of Pharr,  Jose Luis (Eliza) Madrigal of Houston, Blanca (Joe Ed) Canales of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.

Gilberto was born on November 16, 1939, in Laredo, Texas.  He graduated from Martin High School in 1958, and then attended Laredo Junior College for one year.  Gilberto then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served honorably for three years.  Following his time in the Army, he continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

After graduating from Texas A&M, he moved back to Laredo and married the love of his life, Yolanda.  They were married in Laredo at St. Augustine Catholic Church on September 30, 1967.  Soon after they started their family, however the good Lord decided that He needed an extra angel on June 18, 1968, and took their son Gilberto Madrigal Jr to live in His heavenly kingdom. In 1967 Gilberto began working at CBI – Chicago Bridge and Iron – where he would build his career for the next 20 years.  His job took him to different states, however in 1971 Gilberto and Yolanda decided to call Houston home and settled to raise their family.  In 1972 Gilberto became a proud father when his daughter Elsa was born, and again in 1977, when Joanne was born.

Gilberto was an active parishioner of St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church for more than 30 years and served the church in many ways.  He was also active in the Knights of Columbus Council #7136 as treasurer of the council.  He had a servant heart, serving his community through church and was passionate about helping others.

Gilberto always loved spending time with his family, but especially spending time with his three grandchildren.  He was an avid sports fan and loved sharing that joy with them.

Gilberto was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to all and will be tremendously missed.

Friends are invited to visit with the family between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. The Rosary will be prayed beginning at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 24, at St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church in Houston. Interment with military honors will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
