Obituary

Gerald Ronald "Ron" Mitchell, 75, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.

Ron was born on October 30, 1950, in Houston, Texas, to Gerald and Glenna Mitchell. A lifelong Texan, he grew up in the Houston area and graduated from Spring Branch High School before attending Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, Ron studied Business Administration and proudly played trumpet and baritone in the famed Goin' Band from Raiderland. His love for Texas Tech remained with him throughout his life, and he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Red Raiders.

One of the most important chapters of Ron's life began when he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Elizabeth Gifford. Together, they built a remarkable life and shared more than fifty-five years of marriage filled with love, partnership, family, and countless memories. They made their home in the Houston area, where they raised their two daughters and built lifelong friendships.

Ron enjoyed a successful forty-five-year career in procurement within the energy industry. He was respected for his professionalism, integrity, strong work ethic, and leadership. Throughout his career, he earned the trust and admiration of colleagues who valued his steady presence, sound judgment, and thoughtful approach.

Outside of work, Ron's passions included Texas Tech athletics and spending time on the golf course. Whether cheering on the Red Raiders, enjoying a round of golf, or gathering with family and friends, he found joy in life's simple pleasures.

Above all else, Ron was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and friend whose generosity, strength, and unwavering support touched the lives of those around him. His daughters knew him as a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love, and his family will forever cherish the example he set through his dedication, loyalty, and kindness.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Mitchell; his daughters, Kristin Elise Nafziger and Lauren Elizabeth Billiot; and many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

Those who knew Ron will remember his steady presence, quiet humor, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved. He always saw the potential in each person and loved watching them find it.

Ron's life was marked by hard work, devotion to family, enduring friendships, and a deep appreciation for the people and traditions that mattered most to him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
