GERALD HENDERSON GAITHER.

Houston. Texas. July 24, 1940 – December 24, 2017.  Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Henderson Gaither, passed away December 24, 2017 after an extended illness. Dr. Gaither was born July 24, 1940 to the late John Gaither and Gladys Edwards in Harmony, North Carolina.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joan Gaither, an aunt Martha Edwards of Oak Island, NC and three cousins, Don Edwards of Winston  Salem , NC, Susan Stowers and Darrell Edwards both of South Port, NC.  Dr. Gaither received his Associate Degree from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, NC; received his Bachelors Degree from Tennessee University Knoxville;
Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University and his PhD from Tennessee University Knoxville.   He did post doctorate work at the University of Kentucky.  Dr. Gaither was a Senior Fulbright Scholar and lived and taught in the Philippines for two years. He spent his life work in university administration serving, among other places, as Director of Institutional Research and Planning at De Paul University in Chicago,
Director of Institutional Research for the California State University system, and retired as Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Analysis at Prairie View A&M University in Houston.  Dr. Gaither was an educator, editor and author of many books and papers including "Measuring Up – The Promises and Pitfalls of
Performance Indicators in Higher Education"; "Blacks and the Populist Revolt"; "Minority Retention:  What Works?"; "Black Populism in the United States"; "The United States Multi-campus System – Perspectives on Practice and Prospects" (in Chinese).  The family will receive visitors
Thursday, December 28 from 5 to 8 PM at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX 77065.  Services will be held at 10 AM Friday, December 29 at Klein Funeral Home with a grave-side service at 1  PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, 77055.  A reception will follow at 2:30 PM at Cypress BibleChurch,11711 Cypress North Houston
