Obituary

Gerald Thomas Dupree, 84, of Houston, passed away on January 16, 2023.

Gerald was born in Dallas, on December 18, 1938, and grew up in Magnolia, Texas, but lived the last 50+ years of his life in Houston.

He was part of the MHS football team.  Gerald graduated from Magnolia High School in 1956 and immediately began a working career in Houston. His work resume included stints as a cowboy in Jack County, a technician with a Houston light company, and running his own carpet cleaning service in Houston for over 30 years.

Gerald was a skilled wood-worker and family chef. He grew up in the country fishing and hunting and he continued to enjoy those pastimes when he had the opportunity. He was a good storyteller and his revelations to younger generations of growing up poor in material goods but rich in the experiences of life were always appreciated.

In retirement, Gerald loved traveling with his daughter and son-in-law to Alaska (twice), to some of the renown sites of Europe, and to several islands in the West indies.

Gerald loved his family and friends and was a blessing to all whose lives he touched, and he touched many. He was also a proud supporter of Magnolia High School sports, cheer and band and could be found cheering on his grandkids, but all the kids appreciated his being there. Gerald was often recognized in the crowd during Magnolia HS homecomings as he would stand and wave as a proud graduate of 1956.

Gerald is survived by his beloved companion and best friend of 20+ years Brenda Blue, son Wesley Dupree, son David Dupree, daughter Suzanne Dupree, daughter Donna Haynes and husband Joshua. Granddaughter Aimee Lou Newman (husband). Brother; Robert Dupree wife Mary Ellen. And many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a Bonus Dad to Gary and Elizabeth Lett, Gary and Keri Hefner and Bonus Grandpa to Brian, Nolan, Madison, Garrison, Aaron and Connor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Inez (Abney) and Robert Dupree.
