Georgie S. Schilhab of Magnolia, TX, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023. She was 93 years old. Her funeral will be at St. Matthias the Apostle Catholic Church in Magnolia, TX at noon on Thursday, September 14th with Father Christopher Nguyen officiating. The survivors include Cheryl Roby and her husband, Bruce James of Magnolia, TX, Beverly McNulty and her husband, David of Allen, TX; her five grandchildren, Chad Michael Roby and his wife, Jennifer of Magnolia, TX, Fallon Nicolosi and her husband, Brandon of Parker, TX, Chelsea Bretz and her husband, Troy of Tomball, TX, Barrett Walker and his wife, Jessica of Princeton, TX and Chrystal Roby of Houston, TX. Her eleven great children are Jaxon, Layton, and Ace Roby, Connor, Everett, Caleb and Ethan Bretz, Beckett Nicolosi, and Graham, Rhett and Audrey Walker.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Sidney Allen Schilhab, her mother and father, Celeste and Alfons Schwartz, her son, Russell Andrew Schilhab, and her brother, Robert James Schwartz, Sr. The pallbearers are Troy Bretz, grandson in law, Chad Roby, grandson, Robert Schwartz, Jr, nephew, Barrett Walker, grandson, Brandon Nicolosi, grandson in law, David McNulty, son in law and Eugene Schilhab, cousin.
Her early life was filled with farming duties as well as having fun with her large and extended family. Georgie's father was one of 14 children and Georgie's mother was one of 12 children, so Georgie grew up with a huge number of relatives who got together regularly. After realizing farming life was a challenge for her medically due to intense Texas heat, her father looked for other career paths. So, after graduating from Schulenburg High School, she went to a Business School in Houston TX.  After coming home periodically to Moravia, she started dating the love of her life, Sidney.  With both working in Houston, their relationship grew to a lovely and wonderful marriage. Moving around was part of the retail life so Georgie lived in a few other major cities. The last location was to be their home in Lafayette, LA. She loved Lafayette and the people dearly.
Georgie became a wonderful homemaker, an excellent cook and baker.   She made a dessert every single Saturday to last the full week for her children and her husband. Georgie had a busy life in Lafayette as her children grew. She was a wonderful and caring mother and always came to the school if her child left something at home; particularly homework. She was a Boy Scout Leader for Russell as well as a Girl Scout Leader for Cheryl and Beverly. She attended after hour events for her children as well as attended all Lafayette High School football games since her girls were in the band. Later she even followed her daughters to LSU in Baton Rouge every Saturday for the big game since her girls were majorettes for LSU.
As her children started their own lives, Georgie worked in many different professions such as tax consultant, real estate agent, assistant in a pipe business and lastly, Georgie and Sid became entrepreneurs in a small business. Georgie also started travelling extensively with her husband, family or friends.   Georgie particularly loved travelling to her mother country of Germany which her father's descendants are from and some currently live. She had many social roles as part of Sidney's profession as well as outside his profession.  Georgie loved to dance, laugh, drink beer and have a fun time with Sidney and her long-time social friends as well as family.
The Catholic Church was also a huge part of her life. She was actively a member of Altar Society. She was also a Eucharist Minister as well as performed the Homebound Ministry in Lafayette, LA at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
After Sidney had passed away for 3 years, Georgie finally decided to move to Magnolia to be closer to family. She purchased a 1930s farmhouse which was renovated for her.  Georgie moved here in December 2015 where she loved participating in the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Georgie loved animals, gardening and cooking but her truest love was her family and her times spent with them. Her beautiful smile, her generous and gregarious nature will truly be missed.
We will be celebrating her long, wonderful life Thursday, September 14th.  The viewing is at 11 am at St. Matthias the Apostle Catholic Church in Magnolia, Tx with the funeral to follow at noon.
