After a brief bout with cancer, George E. Walker Jr. passed away peacefully at home in Spring, Texas on November 12, 2025 with his daughters at his side.

George was born in Hood River, Oregon, in 1936, the first son of George and Viola, and was primarily raised in Seattle, Washington. One of his first jobs was at a local gas station, which was consistent with his love of cars and all things mechanical. Until the final months of his life, George remained the family expert on matters concerning household repairs, car repairs and computers (an interest he took up in grad school) and was frequently called upon by friends and neighbors for advice and assistance as well.

He participated in the ROTC program while attending the University of Washington as an undergraduate, and it was there that he met his wife and lifelong partner Susan at a fraternity/sorority exchange dance (they were there with other dates). Following graduation George joined the Navy and was stationed in Honolulu, where he and Susan started their family.

After Honolulu, they returned to Seattle where George, intermingled with stints with Boeing and the Navy, completed first a Masters and then a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, which lead to the family relocating to Houston (and briefly to Los Angeles) for his career as a pipeline engineer with Shell Oil.

In addition to working on cars, George's favorite pastimes were hanging out with his family, spending time outdoors, fixing things that needed fixing, and building, playing with, and buying computers. In 1959 he obtained his first amateur (ham) radio license, which he used throughout his life to connect with other hobbyists.

He had a sparkle in his eye and a great sense of humor – people were drawn to him. He was an involved and affectionate father and grandfather, and had an enviable bond with his wife that lasted for 66 years of marriage.

George is survived by his wife Sue, two daughters Debbie (Paul) and Terri, and four grandchildren Matthew, Adam, Amy and Natalie. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Effie) and niece Ann-Marie (Stephen).
