George Harry Mickelis was born in Patmos, Greece on December 29, 1947, and passed away in Cypress, Texas on February 20, 2022.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harry George Mickelis, and his father-in-law, Danny Faulkner.

George is survived by his wife of 28 years, Leslie Burrer Mickelis; his sons, Harry George "Scooter" Mickelis and Jason George Mickelis; his daughter, Katherine Diane Mickelis; mother, Evelyn "Evdokia" Mickelis of Patmos, Greece; sisters, Irene Zambetakis of Patmos, Greece and Eva Evaggelou, and husband George of Patmos, Greece; niece, Evie Zambetakis, husband Antonis Polemitis and son Andreas Polemitis of Cyprus; Nieces Evie and Anastasia Evaggelou, and nephew Manolis Evaggelou Patmos, Greece; cousins, George and Patty Magoulas, Angelo and Christy Magoulas, Tasso and Theresa Magoulas, George Nick Mickelis, and Angela Mickelis and Elizabeth Varvaris, Vicky Varvaris, Irene Varvaris and Manny Varvaris; mother-in-law, Nita Burrer; and siblings-in-law, Todd and Amy Burrer, Paul and Wendy Burrer, Erich and Angela Burrer, Karl and Karla Burrer, and Ryan and Kelsie Burrer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was the true American success story, emigrating from the island at the age of 16 without knowing any English.   George joined his father at the L and H Cafe off West Gray and then moved with his father to open Harry's Restaurant on Tuam, an American style cafeteria. You could always find George at the grill making breakfast, talking politics and bragging about Dallas Cowboys Football.  George, Scooter and Leslie later opened George's Diner on Washington Avenue.  The great food was the main attraction but it was eclipsed by George's floor show behind the steam table.

George was larger than life and he never met a stranger.  Even grocery shopping was an adventure- George would walk up to total strangers and tell them how to cook their food.  George was a constant prankster- setting off fireworks on Easter at the Church; putting firecrackers in the oven at Harry's; and a potato in the tail pipe of a customer's car at George's just to name a few.

Greek dancing was George's life-long passion. He was a founding dancer at the annual Greek Festival.  George danced the Zambetiko, a solo dance that he performed with passion and flair like no other. He brought so much joy to all those lucky enough to witness it.  He treasured his memories of all the Saturday nights at the Athens Bar and Grill Greek dancing the night away over all the dollar bills and plates that were thrown. George truly stole the show! He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.  George's impact will be everlasting.
