George Robert Flickinger's Obituary
George Robert Flickinger, 84, passed away January 12, 2018. He was born January 31, 1933, in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, to George and Margaret Flickinger.
George graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1950. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, following which he graduated from Shippensburg State Teacher's College in 1960 where he was a member of TKE fraternity.
He began a long career in the insurance industry with Nationwide Insurance and Producers Exchange which brought him to Texas. He was a long-time member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and later Klein United Methodist Church in Spring, Texas, where he had been an original member in the 1970s
.
He was also a member of the Lubbock Masonic Lodge No. 1392 and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Khiva Temple of Amarillo.
He loved his church life, and earlier in his life he enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and golf, RVing, Texas Tech football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
George is preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Janet Louise Binner, and his second wife, Patricia Knight.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Conner and her husband Clayton, and Tanya Shaw and her husband Ty; five grandchildren, Colton Shaw and his wife Kimberly, Brock Shaw, Jenna Shaw, Carson Conner, and Cameron Conner; his sister, Twila Peffer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating George's life and faith will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, at Klein United Methodist Church, 5920 FM 2920, Spring, TX 77388, with Rev. George Cathcart officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Heart to Heart Hospice.
