Arthur Gene Meyer

Memorial Services for Arthur Gene Meyer will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday April 25, 2023 at Northwoods Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas with Rev. Dr. Paul Nazarian officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the Family requests donations to Northwoods Presbyterian Church or The American Cancer Society.

Mr. Meyer, 86, died April 4, 2023 at The Holiday Greens ALF with his wife Connie at his side.  He was born March 14, 1937 in Casper, Wyoming, the son of Lewis and Maxine Meyer, into a family with one sister, Eleanor Saunders.  He was an active Boy Scout growing up, and co-captain of the Natrona County High School football team.

Gene graduated from The University of Colorado with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and worked at Sinclair Refining Company in Sinclair, Wyoming until 1965, after which he accepted a job with Shell Oil Company in Ventura California.  His career at Shell included postings in San Francisco and The Hague, Holland before he was relocated to Houston in 1972.  Gene held professional positions as Staff Engineer, Plant Superintendent, Crisis Manager, and Corporate Global Energy Forecaster before retiring in 1994.

Gene's longer career was in service to Christ's Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Board Member for New Directions half way house, and Chaplain in hospitals and prisons in the greater Houston Area.  In 1971 he received a call from The Lord to help create a peace process in Northern Ireland.  In 1993 he was one of nine receiving the Restorative Justice Award for work with Harris County prisoners.  In 2003 he served as Moderator of New Covenant Presbytery and it's 177 churches.  In 2018 Gene was named Lay Minister of the Year, the Rev. Dr. Lawrence W. Johnson Award given by the Prayers of the People organization.  Gene was an avid letter writer and was constantly focused on peace efforts in the US to heal the wounds of this nation prior to his passing.
