Gene Grainger Mattox, Jr.

1949-2017

Gene Grainger Mattox, Jr. of Tomball, Texas, passed away on the 22nd of June 2017.  He was born in Houston, Texas to Gene and Pauline Mattox on the 13th of November 1949.  He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1968 and attended Stephen F. Austin University.

Gene is survived by his wife of forty years, Dlaine Mattox.  A son, Trey Mattox and wife, Jaime and their two children, Mason and Ryan.  A daughter, Kimberly Campos and children; Johnny and Travis. A brother, Randy Mattox. And his special canine rescues; Hemi and Sweetie.

In the seventies and early eighties, Gene was an assessor for the City of Houston and Cy-Fair ISD Tax Department.  Gene was a senior tax consultant for over thirty years and co-founded Mattox, Terrell and Associates with his longtime friend, Clint Terrell.

Gene loved Texas history and was an avid collector of Alamo memorabilia. He had a tenacious drive to protect and serve. Gene's sharp sense of humor and wit will be missed by family and friends.

Early visitation with the family will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W Main St., Tomball, TX 77375 followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m.  Gene always had a soft spot for his canine friends.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Scout's Honor, Corridor Rescue or your rescue shelter of choice.
