Edwin "Gene" Hudson passed away Monday, January 22, 2019 at the age of 87.
Gene was born on February 20, 1931 in Cumberland , Maryland. He was born right in the middle of 17 children to Wilbur and Ethel Hudson. It was in Maryland where Gene married his wife of 63 years Roberta "Birdie" Hudson.
After serving in the US Air Force as an Airman, Gene accepted a position as a flight simulator technician with Capital Airlines. He transitioned with Capital Airlines to United Airlines after the merger and moved to Denver, Colorado where Birdie and Gene raised their two children.
Gene retired from United Airlines after 38 years and in his retirement, continued working in the airline industry as a volunteer for Wings over the Rockies Air Museum.
Gene loved working with his hands as was showcased in his wood working skills. One of the things he loved to make were birdhouses that several family members have and treasure. Gene also built 2 houses from the ground up – if he didn't know how to do it, he figured it out and did to perfection. Gene also enjoyed painting (mostly animals, airplanes and landscapes). He was the curator of the Hudson Family Genealogy and created the Hudson Journal which contains decades of information on the vast Hudson family tree.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents as well as numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Roberta of The Woodlands, Texas, son Charles "Chuck" and friend Debbie Aldrete of Denver, Colorado, and son Robert and wife Laura of The Woodlands, Texas. Gene is also survived by his sisters Julia Orndoff, Maxine Dorr, Leta Neus, and brother Ronald Hudson. Gene is also survived by his granddaughter Lofton Hudson, who he absolutely adored as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Gene's caregivers at Avanti Senior Living at Augusta Pines. Their love and support over the past year kept Gene safe and comfortable. The family would also like to thank the care team with Altus Hospice who have been with us through these last few months.
