Gene P. Carson, born on February 2, 1938 in Hiddenite, North Carolina, passed away on May 29, 2020 at the age of 82. At the time of his death, Gene lived in Hockley, Texas with his wife of three years, Lavada Widener Carson.
He grew up in Hiddenite, North Carolina and spent much of his early years, working along side his 10 siblings on the family tobacco farm. He was the son of C. E. and Pearl Carson. While growing up, Gene had a love of baseball and music, particularly bluegrass music. He left North Carolina to join the army where he served as a paratrooper. After his service in the army Gene spent his early adult life working in furniture factories in North Carolina. He worked in manufacturing jobs around the country before moving to the Houston area in the 1960s. Gene later retired from Klein ISD as a craftsman after also working at Baptist Temple and Spring Baptist Church. During this time at Baptist Temple is when he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized. His faith in God was strong and very important to him. Gene taught Sunday School, led music and sang in church services throughout the years. Gene was a hard worker, but he also loved to paint and continued furniture work for friends and family. Bluegrass music was a big part of his adult life. As a bluegrass musician, Gene toured the country with various bands and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and son, Monty. Gene was also preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Agnes Briones Carson. He is survived by his sister, Thelma Johnson of North Carolina. Gene is survived by son Anthony Carson and daughter-in-law, Colleen; son Joseph Carson and daughter-in-law, Rhonda; daughter Lorrie Hall and son-in-law, John; son Richard Carson and daughter-in-law, Karen; daughter Tracy Brewer and son-in-law, David; Bobby Carson and daughter-in-law, Petra; son Gene Carson and daughter-in-law, Rebecca; son Stoney Carson and daughter Janet Carson. Grandchildren include Cody Harrington, Max Harrington, Jake Harrington, Joey Carson, Susan Carson, Matthew Carson, Breanna Carson, John Robert Carson, Reid Carson, Michelle Carson Anderson, Kyle Carson, Keaton Norman and Joshua Velasquez.
