Eugene "Gene" E. Cantu returned to his heavenly home on August 22,  2018 with family by his side. His devotion to his family and his firm  belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him  peace. Gene was born to the late Carlos Cantu and Elvia Cisneros Cantu  in Brownsville, TX on March 13, 1952. He graduated from Woodsboro High  School in 1970 and joined the Army, serving his country for three years.  

Gene married his best friend, Ethelina "Selina" Gloria  Montemayor, on August 30, 1975, and together they raised two boys with  patience, discipline, and humility.  Aside from titles of husband,  son, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, he was a humble and  caring man, always willing to lend a hand or be a voice of reason.  Gene is survived by his wife, Selina; his sons Michael and Chris  (Desiree); his grandson Christian "Luke"; his brother Carlos  (Rosanne); his sisters Irma "Nena" Morrison (Gary) and Terri Palmer  (Keith), and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by  his brother Ruben and his parents Carlos and Elvia.  Gene will be  buried at Houston National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on August 31.
